I thought of what kind of backpack I would want if I was a kid again and made this for us. It shows the four stages of a Swallowtail Butterfly

Designed for young explorers and budding naturalists, this white school backpack features coloring book-style outlines illustrating the 60-day lifecycle of a Swallowtail butterfly—from egg to flight.

Following a clockwise visual story, illustrations guide kids through the butterfly’s journey:

  1. A tiny egg laid on wild parsley, later a hatching caterpillar feasting on hog fennel

  2. A plump caterpillar preparing for transformation into a chrysalis and going dormant

  3. A wrinkled butterfly emerging from a chrysalis, wings drying

  4. A Swallowtail in flight, drinking nectar from cone flowers

And this all happens in about 60 days. It's a fascinating story of challenge, transformation, and freedom.

Designed for personalization, kids can color in each stage while also adding their name on the front zipper pocket. The left side panel includes space for school, phone, and contact info—ensuring the backpack can be returned if lost.

⚠️ Coloring markers not included (yet). The artist recommends Crayola Fabric Markers for washable designs or Sharpie Creative Markers for bold, permanent colors.

Durable, functional, and educational, this backpack turns every school day into an adventure in science and creativity.
