Elementary, 2nd Grade, B is for Butterfly, (Swallowtail Butterflies) 3-D Group Art Project

These kids are 2nd graders at a school in Henderson, NV who decided to move their butterfly coloring project off the page and into the air.

They built bridge strips to tape between the wings so the butterflies could sit on their desks as pets during class. More of them joined in and started creating their own versions of flowers the butterflies could use for food as they flew around the room, and others started building plant stalks and larger gathering areas where all the butterflies in the classroom could come together to sit while the kids got back to other class work.

Very cool, and not surprising kids have great ideas and work very well together when given a set of creative activities, a timeline, and basic rules like working together, getting along, and respecting each others' ideas.

It kind of reminds me of what a set on Avatar might feel like - everyone imagining what life is like in a place in your mind.
