Elementary, 2nd Grade, B is for Butterfly, (Swallowtail Butterfly)

ree

This is how the coloring usually starts, all organized and purposeful then it grows from there. I suggest working in 5-10 minute increments so students can keep track of time and start to understand what they can accomplish in small bursts throughout the day vs. only doing one large block of art.

This was a class in Henderson, NV and these students really made a lot of traction within each 10-15 minute window of time we spent throughout the day.

It was really interesting to see how quickly they went from this simple blue colored pencil to start their creative minds working then quickly turned into cutting out and creating 3-dimensional sculptures where each person was adding more to what started to look like a meadow with all sorts of butterflies flying around class, landing on flowers to get nectar, then seeing more flowers and larger plants being put together to draw in more butterflies.

It was magic!

Search for 3-D butterflies to see how the students kept building more complexity and depth to their visual stories they were telling.

Beautiful,

Henderson, NV 2025
